Dubai packing advice online is often either too vague or overthought. Here’s what the First Class team actually tells guests — based on the questions we get asked most often.
The Basics (All Year Round)
- Sunscreen, high SPF. Dubai pharmacy prices are steep and availability of specific brands is unreliable. Bring yours.
- Light layers for indoors. The air conditioning in malls, restaurants, and attractions is often set aggressively low. A light cardigan or linen shirt in your bag prevents the jarring temperature change.
- Comfortable walking shoes. Even if you’re not planning to walk far, Dubai’s marble and tiled surfaces are harder on feet than they look.
- Plug adapter. Dubai uses UK-style three-pin plugs (Type G). US, European, and Australian devices need an adapter.
For Winter Stays (October–April)
Light cottons and linens for day. One light jacket or wrap for evenings, particularly if you’ll be on rooftops or near the water. Swimwear — beach clubs and apartment pools are fully operational.
For Summer Stays (May–September)
Lightweight, breathable fabrics only. Synthetics become uncomfortable quickly. UV-protective clothing is worth it for any outdoor time. Sandals you can actually walk in — not just for the beach.
Dress Code Awareness
Dubai is more relaxed than many people expect — beachwear is fine at beaches and pools. In malls and restaurants, normal holiday clothing is entirely acceptable. For mosque visits (Jumeirah Mosque is open to non-Muslim visitors), shoulders and knees should be covered. Scarves are provided on-site if you don’t have one.
What Not to Bring
Don’t overpack formal wear — Dubai’s dress code is polished casual at most venues, and truly formal dinners are rare outside business contexts.
